I just spent a week at Whistler (for the first time). What a bloody amazing
place.
We had fresh deep powder on a few of the days which took a bit of getting
used to after only ever skiing the Aussie slush. Of course I'm hooked now
:) I think Blackcomb supplied the best terrain especially on the glacier
(the short walk from the top of the t is well worth it). The peak of
Whistler and the new Symphony area are also awesome.
We stayed at the Pan Pacific Village Centre which I would recommend highly
to anyone looking to go ski / ride Whistler. It's a great "boutique" hotel
with excellent service (a lot of Aussies working there) and first class
rooms and facilities. My only criticism is the lack of a drying room (but
hey, the smow isn't wet there!).
Everythng about Whistler is great. The cosmopolitain make-up of the people
there, the village itself, the tucker and pubs and of course the smow and
terrain.
The olny downer of the trip was the transit at LA. We arrived exactly on
time and missed our connection to Vancouver even though there was a 3 hour
buffer. Yank immigration (not secutiry) was the hold up. 3 747s turned up
at the same time and 2 monkeys were processing the lot. We spent over 2
hours in line. Like they didn't know the planes were scheduled to arrive :/
I'll definately be back to Whistler (probably next summer!) but will go via
Asia (where travellers don't need to go through immigration when
transiting) or direct to Vancouver on Air Canada next time.

Let's all pray to whatever cosmic force we fancy that this winter in Oz is
more like 2004 than 2006! PB this year for us for a change after Falls,
Hotham & Buller the last few years.

And you can have a nice mid-trip sleep-over somewhere in Asia if you're
taking the kids. What flights are there direct from Aus. to Vancouver?

Well, after the summer fires subside, there'll certainly be more slope
and less bush around them! Perhaps less places to sleep and lifts too.

Air Canada from Sydney. Bloody cheap too. We paid about $3,500 each to go
Qantas MEL - SYD - LAX - YVR (the last leg was on Alaskan - piss poor). Air
Canada go SYD - YVR for about AUD$1,700 return.

I've never travelled Air Canada so I dont know whether they're any good

Cathay Pacific and some other Asian airlines go from Aussie capital cities
via Singapore, Hong Kong and Seol etc - hey, anything to avoid the US.
