I hope it gets better before I get there in 2 weeks (all the way from
Perth)

The man-made runs are good, although they've had some warm weather the last
day or so. Hotham was pretty ordinary.

I heard today that a lot of people this week deserted Perisher to go ski
Thredbo. Which is pretty funny. Means that basically, man-made snow is the
only decent base, and Thredbo has the supertrail. When Threadbare's better
that Penrith blue, you know it's a dire season.

Isn't it early in your season? When I skied Aus, that was back during
the last week of August, 1987. I just reviewed some of the pictures I
took then. Heaps of snow mate!

That happens sometimes. This year is shaping up to be the worst on record.

And last year was not great either.

I wasn't taking much notice of the season, until one of those chirpy little
snow reporters announced last week that they'd just opened Fun Run and
schnaxl. Hello! If those two were no good, there is bugger-all snow up
there. With the cold weather they could make snow, but since most of the
snowmaking is on beginner areas, big whoop.

Lucky bugger! I'm heading over to Falls from Perth with the whole family in
tow and it's all booked and paid for of course. Maybe next year we should
head straight to NZ (or Japan)?

Anyhow, Whistler in January to look forward to :)

I meet so many aussies, here and overseas, who just don't ski here any more.
Some ski this season in NZ, others just save it up for the northern season,
Japan, US, Canada or Europe.

I'm flying over with a mate on Virgin, Renting a car, staying in a good
lodge, skiing 6 days, and it'll still only cost about $1600 for the whole
trip!
But you need to be careful in assuming the snow's alweays better in NZ,
because it isn't.
Some years there's sweet FA and Aus has a massive season, then ,as happened
in '04, we went to Mt Olympus and got too much snow. True! We couldn't ski
almost the whole week due to avalanche risk, then had to get heli'd out a
day late.

A trip over there is good value, and getting better. Nicer scene, too. But
it's the real deal, big mountains, strange weather. A lot more risk
involved, to your prospects of skiing, and your life even.
Australian skiing is primarily a risk to your wallet.

Are you working for Australian Tourism this year, Ant?
I agree the weather is potentially more risky. It's further south, ergo......
But,
How can skiing in a commercial field in NZ be possibly more dangerous to my person than doing the same in Aus?
Anyway,
Do you wanna die in bed?

It's cooling down over the next few days. We'll see, bugger all we can do
about it :/
