What suburb, Damian?
We could share transport etc if snow actually happens.
If it doesn't, I know some good cheap spots in NZ

*puts hand up*

The wife and I are in Chadstone and happy to share cars and lodge
accom.. Last year we just grabbed cheapie beds a few days before heading
up for the a weekend. If the snow's decent this year, that won't be as
easy...

I'm off to NZ for climbing in Nov. and very tempted to head there for a
week in August for skiing. But not Queenstown!

I skied Ohau last year. Lovely lodge with good food, friendly staff, and
they own the field too!

Why not Queenstown Paul?

I'm curious, I have the first couple of weeks
off in July, and was thinking of maybe heading
over for a week or so...

Cheers

Why not Queenstown Paul?
Too big, touristy and expensive for my liking... Wanaka just over the
hill is a far nicer place to stay IMHO.

We sure are! Stay positive - I want some back-country XC. ;) Just as
importantly, we need some rain in the next two months to fill up each of
the resorts' dams for snow-making...

I was last at Buller in the last weekend of August and their dam was
looking awfully empty. Apparently they were only snow-making when
conditions were ideal due to the lack of water. Given their brush with
the bush fires over summer, I'd guess there'd be very little left.
